March Meeting

There were 52 people in attendance.  Art Howard gave the devotion.  The minutes and finance report were read and approved.  Lois Robinson, announced that she would like for members to please take photos for anything done in the name of the Cherokee Beekeepers for the scrapbooks and history of the club. Gwen discussed the t-shirt orders.  Input was given on the possibility of being able to get polo type shirts and hats.  Review of Cherokee  and Valley Farmers Co-op Facebook page including the possibility of discount for beekeepers that “like” the Co-op’s page. Gwen and Kevin went over Hive Tracks, an application to use on smart phones for record keeping.

Jim Garrison was the speaker and the topic was Pollen and Nectar Sources for Honey Bees.  He spoke and presented a slide presentation, that gave information on shrubs, trees, flowers, etc.. in the southeast and Tennessee area that were useful for bee forage and how they affected the production and taste of honey.

Gwen reviewed some important dates, including conferences, classes and a CBA field day at Jim and Linda Gentry’s home.  Jim went over information on the field day and tentative package bee pick up.

CBA member, Rich Oliver donated a demonstration hive that he built for the association.

Door prizes were given to: Lois Robinson, Judy Anderson, Vaughn Daniels, Jack Cox, Nancy Hoyt, Amy Adams, Wareen MacIsaac and Kevin Lane.

Hive Grant winners were asked to meet with their mentors after the meeting.
